Options
Use these options to individually customize the shortkey being edited. Changes made here do not affect any other shortkey macros.
Modify Keys > Options Tab
Use Settings in Preferences
With this option selected, the shortkey options default to the Global Settings defined in Options > Preferences > Playback - General tab. With the option turned off, customize the playback of the shortkey as needed.
Case Sensitivity
ShortKeys provides an option to use case sensitivity in the shortkey names.
Match Uppercase First Character Between Shortkey and Text
Typing the first letter of the shortkey in uppercase will cause the first letter of the replacement text to type in uppercase, regardless of whether the first letter of the text is upper or lowercase.
Or typing the first letter of the shortkey in lowercase will cause the first letter of the replacement text to type in lowercase.
Do not lowercase the first letter
Selecting this option prevents a shortkey from replacing the first capitalized letter with a lowercase letter.
For example, consider a shortkey of "mrr" with a replacement text of "Mr. Roberts".
Option turned off |
Typing "mrr" plays back "mr. Roberts". Typing "Mrr" plays back "Mr. Roberts". |
Option turned on |
Typing "mrr" or "Mrr" would always result in "Mr. Roberts". |
Require Exact Upper/Lowercase Match on Shortkey
The shortkey must be entered exactly as it appears (upper and lowercase letters) for the replacement to work.
None
None of the above cases apply with this option checked. The shortkey is not case sensitive in this situation.
Do Not Remove Keystrokes Typed
This option instructs the shortkey to not erase the abbreviation after being typed. Typically, backspaces are issued to remove the shortkey from the screen before the macro is executed.
When using shortkeys in non-text usage programs, this may not be desirable to have "backspaces" issued. For example, using a shortkey in a browser window when focus is not on an edit box will cause the "back" button to be pressed numerous times due to the backspaces being issued. The Do Not Remove Keystrokes Typed option prevents this from happening.
Playback Method
ShortKeys outputs the text to other applications via one of two methods, typing the text or pasting through the clipboard. Choose the method preferred for this individual shortkey.
Simulate Keystrokes
All shortkey text playback is sent via keystrokes. Each key is typed individually into the application.
Use Clipboard and Paste Text
All shortkey text replacement is copied to the clipboard and then pasted into the application.
Delay
All Shortkeys use ___ microseconds delay between keystrokes
If using the Simulate Keystrokes playback method optionally choose to add a slight delay between each keystroke typed. This may be advisable for longer strings of text that may play back faster than the receiving application can accept the keystrokes.
